Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to the City: T2, T3 and the Right Connection

Start with your actual arrival terminal and hotel's Chinese address. At T2, Metro Line 3 from Airport North (机场北) is a useful option when its route fits. At T3, consider the intercity railway from Baiyun Airport East (白云机场东), the shuttle bus connection to the metro at Gaozeng, or an official taxi. Do not follow an old instruction to leave through T1.

Baiyun Airport's code is CAN and its Chinese name is 广州白云国际机场. Check your operating airline's current terminal information and the arrival screens.

Since 7 May 2026, T1 has been closed for renovation, with its remaining airlines transferred to T3. Airport South metro station and Baiyun Airport South intercity station were also suspended, with trains passing through without stopping. An older map or article showing T1 as an ordinary arrival option needs checking against the current airport notice.

The station names refer to different services. Airport North is the metro name associated with T2; Baiyun Airport North is an intercity railway station. Baiyun Airport East serves T3 on the intercity railway. Do not assume “East” is another stop on Metro Line 3.

At T2, check the metro connection. At T3, choose between intercity rail and the separate shuttle-bus connection to the metro.

Follow official 地铁 / Metro signs to Airport North. Use the route to your hotel's nearest suitable exit, rather than choosing a famous central station automatically. Your journey may require an interchange and a final walk.

Before buying a ticket or entering the gate, confirm the direction, any changes and the last service needed for all legs. The last airport departure is not necessarily a usable connection to every hotel.

For luggage, a stroller or mobility needs, ask about lifts at the exact destination exit. Keep the address available offline and ask staff about a ticket if an app or transport code does not work.

For intercity rail, follow signs to 白云机场东站 in the T3 transport centre. Check the current destination, stopping pattern, fare and identity or ticketing requirements through Guangdong Intercity's official information or 12306 where the service is offered.

Choose a station that actually helps you reach the hotel. The city guidance lists interchange possibilities including Pazhou, Keyun Lu and the Panyu/Guangzhou South hub. A service toward a major railway hub is useful only if that hub fits your onward route.

For Metro Lines 3 or 9, the city also identifies the 空港2线支线 shuttle bus between T3 and 高增站 (Gaozeng). Ask airport staff for the current boarding location and operating arrangements, then check the metro connection beyond Gaozeng. This involves a road transfer; it is not a direct metro platform inside T3.

Avoid changing terminals solely to chase a familiar metro name without comparing the extra transfer. Airport shuttle eligibility and operating arrangements can differ; ask staff before relying on a terminal-to-terminal bus.

Use the signed licensed taxi queue for a direct trip, especially with multiple bags or an inconvenient final metro walk. Show the hotel's full Chinese address, confirm that the destination is understood, and retain the receipt.

For an app booking, choose the actual terminal and pickup area shown in the order. The app pickup zone can differ from the taxi queue and from the departures drop-off road. Check the vehicle and plate before getting in.

Airport buses can work when an operating stop is near your hotel. Confirm the stop, last departure and final walk with the airport bus service. A route name containing your district is not proof of a door-to-door transfer.

Save the hotel's name, address, telephone number and reservation offline before flying. If public transport no longer provides the complete journey, ask the staffed airport information point for the licensed taxi queue or an operating bus. Verify the alternative before leaving the terminal.

Show 我要去这个地址，请问现在还有合适的公共交通吗？ — “I need to go to this address. Is there suitable public transport still running?” For the terminal, ask 这是二号还是三号航站楼的乘车点？ — “Is this the boarding point for Terminal 2 or Terminal 3?”

If continuing to Guangzhou South, Guangzhou East or Guangzhou Baiyun railway station, use the exact station name on the ticket. Those are different places. Compare the entire connection with available time before committing to a train after an international arrival.
