Shanghai Hongqiao Airport to the City: T1, T2 and the Railway Hub

Travel from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport T1 or T2 using Metro Lines 10 and 2, taxi or Airport Link Line, and distinguish the railway station.

IN THIS GUIDE

At Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA / 上海虹桥国际机场), start with your terminal. T1 has Metro Line 10; T2 has Metro Lines 2 and 10, with access to the Airport Link Line through the terminal's rail facilities. Hongqiao railway station is a separate mainline railway boarding facility within the larger hub.

Use the hotel's exact address to decide between rail and a direct car journey. Do not confuse SHA with Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG), or a metro ticket with a high-speed train booking.

Shanghai Hongqiao Airport terminals connected with metro and a separate railway station

Illustrative Hongqiao connections: the airport terminals and Hongqiao Railway Station are different boarding locations.

Arriving at Terminal 1

Ask Buddy ↗

Follow 地铁10号线 signs if the metro suits your destination. Line 10 connects T1 with T2 and Hongqiao railway station, as well as continuing toward city destinations. Check the train direction for the journey you actually need.

Do not assume Line 2 or the Airport Link Line has a T1 platform just because a general airport page lists it. If your chosen journey uses T2 facilities, follow the current terminal-transfer route and allow time for the change.

For a car, use the T1 taxi queue or the app pickup assigned to T1. The city's published guidance points to the licensed taxi pickup outside Gate 1 on the arrivals floor; follow current airport wayfinding if the arrangement changes.

Arriving at Terminal 2

Ask Buddy ↗

Compare Metro Line 2 and Line 10 using the final hotel station and exit. One may reduce transfers for your particular address. Buying a ticket to a district without checking the final walk can leave a difficult last section with luggage.

The T2 hub also gives access to the Airport Link Line and the nearby railway facilities. Follow the exact service name. Different ticket gates in one large building do not mean the services share tickets or boarding rules.

Published taxi guidance identifies the T2 pickup outside Gate 4 on the arrivals floor. An app-car meeting point can be elsewhere; use the location in your own booking and match the vehicle details.

Going to a hotel in Shanghai

Ask Buddy ↗

Save its Chinese name, address and phone number before flying. Check whether the nearest station exit has a practical walking route and the accessibility you need.

For several passengers or bulky bags, compare the total group rail cost and final transfer with a current car quote. If choosing a taxi, confirm the destination and payment method before setting off. Keep the trip record.

Airport buses may offer another useful route, but check the currently operating line, terminal stop and final connection rather than relying on a historic timetable.

Hongqiao Airport T1 and T2 distinguished from the separate Hongqiao Railway Station boarding facility

Schematic Hongqiao locations: airport T1, airport T2 and Hongqiao Railway Station are separate boarding places linked by Metro Line 10. Follow the destination and checks for your own journey.

Connecting to a high-speed train

Ask Buddy ↗

Confirm the issued railway ticket departs from Shanghai Hongqiao, not Shanghai railway station, Shanghai South or another station. From T1, Line 10 can be a useful connection to the railway station. From T2, follow the airport's current railway-connection signs within the hub.

You still need to reach the railway entrance, complete its identity and security process and find the train gate. An airport arrival is not a completed railway check-in, and flight delays can affect a separately booked train.

Carry the original document used for the rail booking and allow a realistic transfer margin. See high-speed train boarding for the station sequence.

Connecting to Pudong Airport

Ask Buddy ↗

The Airport Link Line serves Hongqiao T2 and Pudong's T1/T2 station, with about 40 minutes between the rail endpoints. You must still account for reaching the station, waiting, terminal access and the onward flight's procedures.

If you arrive at Hongqiao T1, include the link to the relevant T2 rail facility. Do not turn the advertised rail journey time into a guaranteed international-flight connection.

Some airlines offer specific cross-airport transfer products with their own eligibility and baggage arrangements. Only use those benefits if your airline confirms that your particular booking qualifies; do not assume checked bags transfer automatically between airports.

At night or without mobile data

Ask Buddy ↗

Check both the first and connecting service. If public rail is no longer useful, ask airport staff about an operating bus or the licensed taxi queue. Inform your hotel of a late arrival.

Keep the address and an accepted payment backup offline. A new app registration or SMS login is not a dependable last-minute fallback when your connection has already failed.
